My name is Muzaffar and last year a colleague suggested I practise English by eating at restaurants where the staff speak English, which at first seemed like a strange idea but turned out to be one of the best things I did for my language skills.
In a restaurant you have a real purpose — you are hungry and need to communicate clearly — and this natural pressure makes you focus in a way that textbook exercises cannot.
Over two months I learned to ask what a dish contains, make substitutions like bread instead of rice, explain a food allergy and ask for the bill politely.
I also picked up useful phrases I had not known before, like "Could I get this without the sauce?" and "Is there a table available near the window?" and "Could I see the dessert menu please?"
The restaurant became one of my best classrooms because every visit gave me new language and new confidence that carried over into my teaching as well.
میرا نام مظفر ہے اور گزشتہ سال ساتھی نے مشورہ دیا کہ انگریزی مشق کے لیے ایسے ریستورانوں میں کھانا کھاؤں جہاں عملہ انگریزی بولتا ہو، جو پہلے عجیب لگا لیکن زبان کی مہارت کے لیے بہترین کاموں میں سے ایک ثابت ہوا۔

मेरा नाम मुज़फ़्फ़र है और पिछले साल सहयोगी ने सुझाव दिया कि अंग्रेजी अभ्यास के लिए ऐसे रेस्तरां में खाना खाऊँ जहाँ कर्मचारी अंग्रेजी बोलते हों, जो पहले अजीब लगा लेकिन भाषा कौशल के लिए सबसे अच्छी चीज़ों में से एक साबित हुआ।
रेस्तरां में एक असली उद्देश्य है — भूखे हैं और साफ बताना है — और यह स्वाभाविक दबाव आपको उस तरह ध्यान केंद्रित कराता है जैसा पाठ्यपुस्तक अभ्यास नहीं कर सकते।
दो महीने में सीखा कि खाने में क्या है पूछना, विकल्प माँगना जैसे चावल की जगह रोटी, फूड एलर्जी बताना और शिष्टता से बिल माँगना।
मैंने ऐसे उपयोगी वाक्यांश भी सीखे जो पहले नहीं जानता था, जैसे "क्या यह सॉस के बिना मिल सकता है?" और "क्या खिड़की के पास मेज़ उपलब्ध है?" और "क्या मैं डेज़र्ट मेनू देख सकता हूँ?"
रेस्तरां मेरी सबसे अच्छी कक्षाओं में से एक बन गया क्योंकि हर दौरे ने मुझे नई भाषा और नया आत्मविश्वास दिया जो मेरी शिक्षण में भी काम आया।
