My name is Zohra and last month I visited two restaurants with similar food and prices in the same week but had completely different experiences because of the atmosphere at each place.
At the first restaurant the lighting was very bright, the music was loud and the tables were so close together that I could hear the conversations of the people sitting next to us, which made me feel rushed and uncomfortable.
At the second restaurant the lighting was softer, the background music was quiet enough that we could talk easily and the tables had enough space, so I felt relaxed from the moment I sat down and stayed for two hours.
Interestingly I remember the food at the second restaurant as tasting better even though both meals were actually quite similar in quality, which shows how much atmosphere affects the experience of eating.
Atmosphere is not a luxury but part of what you are paying for, and when I describe restaurants in English I always try to mention the lighting, the noise level and the table spacing alongside the food.
میرا نام زہرا ہے اور گزشتہ ماہ ایک ہفتے میں دو ریستورانوں میں گئی جن میں ملتا جلتا کھانا اور قیمتیں تھیں لیکن ہر جگہ کے ماحول کی وجہ سے تجربات بالکل مختلف رہے۔
پہلے ریستوران میں روشنی بہت تیز تھی، موسیقی اونچی تھی اور میزیں اتنی قریب تھیں کہ پاس بیٹھے لوگوں کی باتیں سنائی دیتی تھیں جس سے میں جلدی میں اور بے چین محسوس کی۔
دوسرے ریستوران میں روشنی نرم تھی، پس منظر کی موسیقی اتنی دھیمی تھی کہ آسانی سے بات کر سکتے تھے اور میزوں کے درمیان کافی جگہ تھی، اس لیے بیٹھتے ہی آرام محسوس کی اور دو گھنٹے رکی۔
دلچسپی سے دوسرے ریستوران کا کھانا بہتر یاد ہے حالانکہ دونوں کھانے دراصل کوالٹی میں کافی ملتے جلتے تھے، جو ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ ماحول کھانے کے تجربے کو کتنا متاثر کرتا ہے۔
ماحول کوئی آرائشی چیز نہیں بلکہ اس قیمت کا حصہ ہے جو آپ ادا کرتے ہیں، اور جب میں انگریزی میں ریستورانوں کی تفصیل دیتی ہوں تو ہمیشہ کھانے کے ساتھ روشنی، شور کی سطح اور میزوں کے درمیان فاصلہ بھی ذکر کرتی ہوں۔
मेरा नाम ज़ोहरा है और पिछले महीने एक हफ्ते में दो रेस्तरां में गई जिनमें मिलता-जुलता खाना और कीमतें थीं लेकिन हर जगह के माहौल की वजह से अनुभव बिल्कुल अलग रहे।
पहले रेस्तरां में रोशनी बहुत तेज़ थी, संगीत ऊँचा था और मेज़ें इतनी पास थीं कि पास बैठे लोगों की बातें सुनाई देती थीं जिससे मैं जल्दी में और बेचैन महसूस की।
दूसरे रेस्तरां में रोशनी नरम थी, पृष्ठभूमि संगीत इतना धीमा था कि आसानी से बात कर सकते थे और मेज़ों के बीच काफी जगह थी, इसलिए बैठते ही आराम महसूस किया और दो घंटे रुकी।
दिलचस्प बात यह है कि दूसरे रेस्तरां का खाना बेहतर याद है हालाँकि दोनों खाने दरअसल गुणवत्ता में काफी मिलते-जुलते थे, जो दिखाता है कि माहौल खाने के अनुभव को कितना प्रभावित करता है।
माहौल कोई विलासिता नहीं बल्कि उस कीमत का हिस्सा है जो आप देते हैं, और जब मैं अंग्रेजी में रेस्तरां की तफसील देती हूँ तो हमेशा खाने के साथ रोशनी, शोर का स्तर और मेज़ों के बीच दूरी भी उल्लेख करती हूँ।
