My name is Ghufran and a few months ago I attended a work event at a buffet restaurant where I had to ask the staff about sesame because I have a sesame allergy.
I approached a staff member standing near a food station and said, "Excuse me, I have a sesame allergy. Could you tell me which of these dishes contain sesame or sesame oil?"
She pointed out three dishes that contained sesame, suggested four others that were completely sesame-free, and also warned me to avoid the dipping sauce at the end because it was sesame-based.
Buffets can actually be very allergy-friendly environments if you ask the right person the right question because the staff at food stations know the ingredients as they prepare and replenish the dishes.
Always identify yourself to a staff member before serving from a buffet if you have any food allergy because one clear sentence can protect your health for the entire event.
