My name is Tabinda and our school had a rule that no student could leave during lunch break — the main gate stayed locked until dismissal time. I hated this rule for years and complained about it regularly but my mother always said there is probably a reason even if you cannot see it. In class nine a student from another school was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road during their lunch break. Our school then sent a letter explaining that the rule existed because the road outside was fast and students rushing to cross during short breaks were at real risk. Since that day I try to ask why a rule exists before deciding it is unfair — sometimes rules are there because something bad happened once and someone decided it should not happen again.
