My name is Faiza. I recently got married and moved from Lahore to Karachi. My family from Lahore cooks Punjabi food with a lot of spice and oil. The first time I tasted my mother in law's daal it seemed bland and the first time she tasted my cooking she said it was too spicy. We both laughed about it. Now we cook together every evening and it has become one of my favourite times of the day. I have learned to make Karachi style biryani which uses different spices from Lahore biryani. She has learned to make saag and makki ki roti from me which she had never tried before. Food has become the bridge between our two very different food worlds. When two people from different food cultures learn to cook for each other they are saying I respect you. My mother in law told me I make her son happier. He gets the taste of both his homes in one kitchen.
