My name is Raheel.
I am a student who lives in a hostel in Lahore.
Cooking my own food was something I had never done before coming to hostel.
In the first week I survived on biscuits, instant noodles and bananas.
My mother came to visit and taught me the most basic cooking skills.
She taught me how to make daal, fried eggs, simple rice and chicken shorba.
She wrote all the recipes on a small paper that I taped to the inside of my cupboard.
Now my daal is quite decent and my roommates sometimes ask me to cook extra for them too.
When you cook something with your own hands you never waste it.
Simple food cooked with care tastes better than expensive food made without love.
My mother calls every Sunday to ask what I cooked that week.
Learning to cook is one of the most important life skills a young person can have.

میں لاہور میں ہاسٹل میں رہنے والا طالب علم ہوں۔
اپنا کھانا پکانا کچھ ایسا تھا جو میں نے ہاسٹل آنے سے پہلے کبھی نہیں کیا تھا۔
پہلے ہفتے میں بسکٹ، انسٹنٹ نوڈلز اور کیلوں پر گزارا کیا۔
میری ماں مجھ سے ملنے آئی اور مجھے بنیادی پکانے کی مہارتیں سکھائیں۔
اس نے مجھے دال، تلے ہوئے انڈے، سادہ چاول اور چکن شوربہ بنانا سکھایا۔
اس نے تمام ترکیبیں ایک چھوٹے کاغذ پر لکھیں جسے میں نے اپنی الماری کے اندر چپکا دیا۔
اب میری دال کافی ٹھیک ہے اور میرے روم میٹ کبھی کبھی مجھ سے ان کے لیے بھی اضافی پکانے کو کہتے ہیں۔
جب آپ اپنے ہاتھوں سے کچھ پکاتے ہیں تو آپ اسے کبھی ضائع نہیں کرتے۔
دیکھ بھال سے پکایا سادہ کھانا بغیر محبت کے بنے مہنگے کھانے سے بہتر ہوتا ہے۔
میری ماں ہر اتوار کو یہ پوچھنے کے لیے فون کرتی ہے کہ اس ہفتے میں نے کیا پکایا۔
پکانا سیکھنا ایک نوجوان کے پاس ہونے والی سب سے اہم زندگی کی مہارتوں میں سے ایک ہے۔

मैं लाहौर में हॉस्टल में रहने वाला छात्र हूँ।
अपना खाना पकाना कुछ ऐसा था जो मैंने हॉस्टल आने से पहले कभी नहीں किया था।
पहले हफ्ते मैं बिस्कुट, इंस्टेंट नूडल्स और केले पर गुज़ारा किया।
मेरी माँ मुझसे मिलने आईं और मुझे बुनियादी खाना पकाने की कौशल सिखाई।
उन्होंने मुझे दाल, तले हुए अंडे, सादा चावल और चिकन शोरबा बनाना सिखाया।
उन्होंने सभी रेसिपी एक छोटे कागज़ पर लिखीं जिसे मैंने अपनी अलमारी के अंदर चिपका दिया।
अब मेरी दाल काफी ठीक है और मेरे रूममेट कभी-कभी मुझसे उनके लिए भी अतिरिक्त पकाने को कहते हैं।
जब आप अपने हाथों से कुछ पकाते हैं तो आप इसे कभी बर्बाद नहीं करते।
देखभाल से पकाया सादा खाना बिना प्यार के बने महंगे खाने से बेहतर होता है।
मेरी माँ हर रविवार को यह पूछने के लिए फोन करती हैं कि इस हफ्ते मैंने क्या पकाया।
