My name is Bilal. I am a seventeen year old boy who lives in a flood affected village near Dera Ismail Khan. My school was damaged so for several months I could not attend classes. But I never stopped learning. I borrowed books from a friend in a nearby town and studied at home every day. I woke up at six every morning and studied for four hours at the kitchen table. After studying I helped my father repair our damaged mud house. In the evenings I taught my younger siblings the lessons I had studied in the morning. At night I listened to an English learning radio programme on a small battery radio. When the school reopened my teacher was amazed that I had not forgotten anything. Now I wake up every morning feeling grateful that I have a school to go to. I want to study engineering and help rebuild villages like mine so that floods can never destroy our lives again.
