Yesterday I told Bilal that I live in Lahore, near my university. Today I want to tell you about my country. My country is Pakistan. Pakistan is a beautiful country in South Asia. It has high mountains, wide rivers, and green fields. The capital city of Pakistan is Islamabad. Lahore is the second largest city and is known for its food, history, and culture. Karachi is the biggest city and is near the sea. I also have a university friend named Rahul. He is from India. India is also a big and beautiful country in South Asia. Rahul told me that his city is Mumbai. He said, India has many rivers, forests, and mountains too. We both love our countries. We always say, our country is the best place in the world.

Grammar Focus - Talking About Your Country Using Simple Present Tense

In this paragraph, Ali uses simple present tense to describe his country - because these are facts that are always true. Pakistan is in South Asia. Lahore is the second largest city. These facts do not change, so we use the present tense. Notice that for singular subjects we use is - Pakistan is, Karachi is, Lahore is. For plural subjects we use are - the mountains are, the rivers are. This is an important grammar rule that Urdu and Hindi speakers sometimes confuse because in both languages the verb form is often the same regardless of singular or plural.
