Yesterday I told you about my hobby.
Today I want to tell you about my favourite colour.
My favourite colour is blue.
Not every shade, but the particular kind of blue that appears in the sky just after sunset, when the sun has gone but it is not yet fully dark.
That colour has a name in English, dusk blue, and every time I look up at that moment, I feel something quiet settle inside me.
Blue is also the colour of the sky on a clear winter morning in Lahore, when the air is cold and sharp and the light feels clean.
I have always connected blue with the feeling of space.
When something is blue, it feels open rather than closed, wide rather than narrow.
My study table is near a window, and when I look up from a difficult problem late at night, the dark blue sky through the glass gives me a second breath.
Bilal once told me that his favourite colour is green, because green is the colour of the sea near his home when the sunlight hits it at a certain angle.
I told him that is not green, that is actually turquoise, which is a shade between blue and green.
He disagreed and we argued about it for nearly twenty minutes on the phone.
We never agreed.
But that conversation reminded me how much colours are connected to memories and places, not just preferences.
When I finally work in a tech company and decorate my own office desk, I already know there will be something blue on it.
Perhaps just a small pen holder, or a notebook cover.
Small things, but enough to make the space feel like mine.

मेरी स्टडी टेबल एक खिड़की के पास है, और जब मैं रात को किसी मुश्किल समस्या से नज़र हटाता हूँ, तो काँच में से गहरा नीला आसमान मुझे दूसरी साँस देता है।
बिलाल ने एक बार मुझे बताया था कि उसका पसंदीदा रंग हरा है, क्योंकि हरा उसके घर के पास समुद्र का रंग है जब धूप एक खास कोण से पड़ती है।
मैंने उसे बताया कि यह हरा नहीं, बल्कि दरअसल फ़िरोज़ी है, जो नीले और हरे के बीच का शेड है।

हम कभी सहमत नहीं हुए।
