My name is Kiran and I remember my first day at a new school very clearly after my family moved to a different city.
Walking into the new school on that first morning was one of the most frightening things I had done — I knew nobody and knew nothing about the place.
Then a girl came and sat next to me and said my name is Mehak and you look lost.
She walked me to the canteen at break time introduced me to her friends and told me which teachers were strict and which were kind.
Mehak and I became close friends for the rest of school and I think of her whenever I see someone new and alone anywhere.
A single sentence from a stranger and an offer to help can completely change a person first experience of somewhere new.
