My name is Gulbahar and I grew up in a small village where the most common way to travel to town was the horse cart.
The ride is slow and bumpy but it has a rhythm completely different from any motorised vehicle — you hear the hooves and feel the open fields.
The horse cart drivers knew everyone and everything and acted like a moving news service for every family along the route.
By the time I was twelve motor vehicles had mostly replaced horse carts in our area.
It was a slower world and I think it was also a more connected one.
میرا نام گلبہار ہے اور میں ایک چھوٹے گاؤں میں پلی بڑھی جہاں شہر جانے کا سب سے عام طریقہ گھوڑا گاڑی تھا۔

घोड़ा-گाड़ी वाले सबको और सब जानते थे और रास्ते के हर परिवार के लिए चलती-फिरती खबर सेवा थे।
जब तक बारह साल की हुई, मोटर गاड़ियों ने हमारے इलाके में घोड़ा-گाड़ियों की जगह ले ली थी।
वह एक धीमी दुनिया थी और मेरे खयाल से अधिक जुड़ी हुई भी।
