My name is Jawdan and last year my father drove our family from Islamabad to Gilgit on the Karakoram Highway.
In some places the road runs along the edge of a cliff with the Indus River hundreds of metres below like a thin silver ribbon.
As you go north the landscape changes completely — peaks get higher the air gets thinner and colder.
A shepherd boy waved at us and my father stopped the car so we could wave back.
That journey made Pakistan feel even bigger and more varied than I had imagined.
Every Pakistani should drive the Karakoram Highway at least once in their life.
میرا نام جاودان ہے اور پچھلے سال ابو نے خاندان کو قراقرم ہائی وے پر اسلام آباد سے گلگت تک چلایا۔
کچھ جگہوں پر سڑک چٹان کے کنارے کے ساتھ چلتی ہے اور نیچے سینکڑوں میٹر دریائے سندھ ایک پتلے فیتے کی طرح ہے۔
شمال کی طرف جانے پر منظر بالکل بدل جاتا ہے — چوٹیاں اونچی، ہوا پتلی اور ٹھنڈی ہوتی ہے۔
ایک چرواہا لڑکے نے ہاتھ ہلایا اور ابو نے گاڑی روکی تاکہ ہم واپس ہاتھ ہلا سکیں۔
اس سفر نے پاکستان کو میرے تصور سے بھی بڑا اور زیادہ متنوع محسوس کرایا۔
ہر پاکستانی کو زندگی میں کم از کم ایک بار قراقرم ہائی وے کا سفر کرنا چاہیے۔
मेरा नाम जावदान है और पिछले साल पिताजी परिवार को काराकोरम राजमार्ग पर इस्लामाबाद से गिलगित तक ले गए।
کچھ जگहों पर सड़क चट्टान के किनारे चलती है और नीچे सैकड़ों मीटर सिंधु एक पतले फीते जैसा है।
उत्तर जाने पर दृश्य बिल्कुल बदलता है — चोटियाँ ऊँची, हवा पतली और ठंडी होती है।
एک चरवाहे ने हाथ हिलाया और पिताजी ने गाड़ी रोकी ताकि हम वापस हाथ हिला सकें।
उस यात्रा ने पाकिस्तान को कल्पना से भी बड़ा और विविध महसूस कराया।
हर पाकिस्तानी को जीवन में कम से कम एक बار काराकोरम राजमार्ग की यात्रा करनी चाहिए।
