My name is Noman and my grandmother keeps six hens and one rooster in her courtyard.
Last spring one hen made a nest and sat on eight eggs.
On the twenty first day we heard tiny sounds and by the next morning six yellow chicks had hatched.
The mother hen kept all six under her wings and puffed up fiercely if I came too close.
A mother protecting her babies is the same in every species.
I was not allowed near those chicks for two weeks.
