My name is Zubeda. I have lived in the same house in Hyderabad for forty two years. This house has seen three generations of my family. My four children were born here and grew up in these rooms. Now my grandchildren visit and play in the same courtyard where their parents once played. There is a crack on the bedroom door frame where my son measured his height every year from age five to eighteen. I have never let anyone repair that crack. The garden has a large mango tree that my husband planted on our first wedding anniversary. That tree now gives fruit every summer and my grandchildren eat the mangoes straight from the branch. A house that has lived with a family for so many years is not just a building. It is a living memory that breathes and speaks to you every single day. I hope to spend the rest of my life in this house.
